Whether you teach elementary or secondary, English or Social Studies, you need to know about Tolerance.org. Created by the Southern Poverty Law Center, they focus on integrating tolerance into education. They strive to encourage diversity, acceptance, ingenuity, and equality for all peoples. Here are some of my favorite things about this website:
- Professional Development- Everything from webinars to booklets for teachers and administrators to help encourage acceptance and growth in minorities and the under-privileged.
- FREE classroom resources- The activities and lesson plans they provide are wonderful! They provide materials for all grade levels and almost all subjects. Have a look around and see what you could use! Some of my personal favorites are I'm a Leader Too! (1st/2nd grade), What Counts as History? (middle grades), and Native American Influences (multi-level)
- FREE FILM KITS!- this is seriously my favorite part about this website! Teachers can order free film kits in the mail with lesson plans, posters, and much more! Right now they offer kits about The Civil Rights Movement, The Children's March, Cesar Chavez, School Bullying, Selma March, The Holocaust, and a look at Elementary classes based on fairness, respect, and tolerance.
