I've been meaning to make this post for a while and now I FINALLY have the time. I want to talk about two apps that I decided that every teacher needs in their arsenal. They both can be used in any subject area.

Class Dojo!
user friendly: 4.5 stars reliability: 4 stars classroom uses: 5 stars price: FREE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS APP! Class Dojo literally turned all my classes around! Class Dojo is a behavior management tool for teachers but it is so much more than that! I can be accessed from a device or computer. |

You can customize what behaviors you wish to reward students for AND which ones you want to see change. If you teach multiple classes you can customize it to each one.
You can take attendance, start a timer, and print create reports so you students and parents can see how their doing!
How I Use it:
My students might not like it all the time, but it works really well. Since I have high schoolers, I use it to take attendance and for participation grades. every 2 weeks I reset the points. The percentage given on the reports is their participation grade percentage.

My students might not like it all the time, but it works really well. I tend to show their points on the board and turn the volume up on my computer. It plays a certain sound for losing points. When they hear that, they all tend to pipe up and quit whatever their doing wrong. They don't want that to happen to them. | |
I LOVE giving points because it helps me to acknowledge those students who are on task and wonderful. They whole class sees them gain points and they get that positive recognition that is sometimes hard to find time for. Since it also is on my phone, I can walk around and reward points without being stuck to my computer or smartboard. For the low price of FREE I don't see why any teacher wouldn't give it a shot!
What do you think?
Are you interested in using class dojo? do you use it already? How?
I'd love to answer any questions you have or any concerns. While it may not be for everyone, I think its definitely worth a try!
